Thinking Maps
Sunset Ridge has transformed into a Thinking Maps school! We use the eight maps to help us process our learning through non linguistic representation. By using these maps, we are able to move information from short term to long term memory. Our class, will be reviewing all eight maps the first few months of school. Our hope if for the children to become autonomous with the maps and use them on their own in order to process their own thinking. We welcome parents to learn and use the maps as well. I hope you find the information below to be helpful. Please encourage your children to use these maps at home too!
The eight maps we use are:
1. The Circle Map - Used to brainstorm ideas about the topic named in the center
2. Tree Map - Used for classification:
Name main groups in top branches and then examples of subgroups below
3. The Bubble Map - Uses adjectives ONLY to describe the topic in the center
4. The Double Bubble Map - Used to compare and contrast
5. The Flow Map - Shows the steps or processes in order
6. The Multi-Flow Map - Used to show cause and effect relationships
7. The Brace Map - Demonstrates whole to part relationships, dissects the parts from its' whole
8. The Bridge Map - Shows analogies
